Casual reminder that in one of Leonardo da Vinci’s many notebooks containing innumerable artistic and scientific sketches and notes of incomprehensible important, there is a sketch of two penises with legs and tails walking towards a crudely drawn anus.
The sketch was most likely done by Leonardo’s apprentice Salai, who was not only very likely one of Leonardo’s lovers, but who was also infamously mischievous. Better yet, the anus is literally labeled “Salai.”
So either Salai drew these while Leonardo wasn’t looking just to annoy his boyfriend, or Leonardo himself put actual time and energy into drawing these. Either way, the human race is truly blessed to have made such a discovery.
There are dick drawings like the ones you see on desks in school in Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks. Please cherish this information.
In the midst of exploring Renaissance Italy history for reasons, I have found a wonder.
“I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading.”
I love it. Taking a term meant to be derogation towards women and giving it positive meaning and strength is amazing! This woman will forever be a huge inspiration to me.

Pictures taken at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, WV. Formerly known as the Weston State Hospital (built in the mid 1800’s). I took these photos on a trip to West Virginia in the summer of 2011. The 4th and 5th pictures in the series are of a small storage unit used to temporarily hold the bodies of patients who passed away at the hospital.
Apparently at its height the hospital was a big source of revenue for the town. Since its closure a couple decades ago, the town has fallen into a horrible state of disrepair and driving through Weston to get to the hospital left us feeling a tad unsettled. An amazing building to visit and tour through, however.
